Income Gap
30 years after coming to the United States from Taiwan, Yeni Wong is leading the
Chinese New Years parade in Washington, D.C.
"When I have the challenge presented to me I don’t want to miss it.”
“This is a new building I’m going to build in Baltimore.”
Today Yeni Wong is a wealthy real estate developer and respected civic leader in
Washington, D.C. The keys to her success, she says, are hard work and
determination. But she has also found that the economic system in the United
States rewards the rich with investment opportunities, tax incentives and access to
capital.
In another part of the city restaurant owner Gloria Umana, who came from El
Salvador 25 years ago, is finding it harder to make ends meet.
The contrast between Gloria Umana’s struggling little restaurant and Yeni Wong’s
expanding business portfolio illustrate the growing income gap between the rich
and the poor in America.
