"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," led the nominations with 11;
including nominations for Best Picture and Best Director for Peter Jackson. The naval
adventure "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" earned 10
nominations.
The other three nominees for best picture are murder thriller "Mystic River," the
horse racing drama "Seabiscuit," and "Lost in Translation," a story of two lonely
Americans in Tokyo.
Best actress nominations went to Samantha Morton for "In America," Naomi Watts
for "21 Grams," Diane Keaton for "Something's Gotta Give," Keisha Castle-Hughes,
the 13 year old star of "Whale Rider," and Charlize Theron, who recently won the
Golden Globe award for her role in the film "Monster".
