직역하면 한 가지 일이 또 다른 일을 만들었다는 뜻으로, 어떤 일이 벌어지게 된 복잡한 과정을 대충 얼버무리고 넘어가고 싶을 때 많이 쓰는 표현입니다.
A:I was so surprised that the President called your name. How does he know you?
B:I wish he didn't. I gave him a terrible impression on the first day I met him. One thing led to another. Now he obviously hates me.
A:Really? He didn't seem to hate you at all. Actually I thought he liked you.
A:회장님이 네 이름을 불러 너무 놀랐어. 어떻게 널 아셔?
B:차라리 모르는 편이 낫지. 처음 뵙던 날부터 안 좋은 인상을 남겼는데 이러저러해서 지금은 대놓고 날 싫어하셔.
A:정말? 싫어하시는 것 같지 않던데. 오히려 널 좋아하시는 것 같았어.
