[톡톡 튀는 생활영어] Keep your eyes peeled. 무언가에서 눈을 떼지 않고 계속 쳐다보거나 집중하라고 할 때, 우리는 '한눈 팔지 마'라고 하죠. 영어에도 이와 비슷한 표현이 있는데 keep your eyes peeled라고 합니다. peel은 '과일 등의 껍질을 까다'라고 할 때 쓰는 동사이지만 위의 표현에서는 눈을 감지 말고 눈꺼풀이 떠진 상태에서 '계속 쳐다보다'라는 의미로 쓰였습니다.
